Check the Technique: Liner Notes for Hip-Hop Junkies - Brian Coleman An expanded version of Rakim Told Me. More incredible stuff, but it loses points for recycling MOST of the original book without all of it, making owning both necessary but kind of wasteful at the same time. That's the only reason it gets four stars instead of five.

Otherwise it's pretty much perfect. Sure some stuff is left out, and coverage of non-East Coast artists is pretty scant, but there's only so much that one book can do. We hope there will be more, and that they won't recycle previous chapters. But this book does have a chapter on The Low End Theory, which is one of the greatest albums of all time... so there's that.
